Founded in 1854, and set in picturesque grounds in Putney, we are the oldest independent hospital and medical charity in the UK. There is something very different about the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability. We don’t just treat people with profound disabilities, we care for them as individuals, creating care plans that resonate with them on a personal level, and offering practical and emotional support to them and their families every step of their journey. Balancing traditional practice with specialist therapies and life changing technologies, our work makes an enormous difference to the lives of disabled adults with acquired brain injuries and degenerative neurological conditions, such as Huntington’s disease. The difference our work makes to those in our care means; 🔹 We assess accurately and treat holistically. Our specialists work as a team, combining their diverse expertise to address the physical needs, cognitive abilities and psychological states of everyone who comes to stay with us. 🔹 We make things personal. From tailoring treatment to incorporate individual interests, to customising wheelchairs that aid posture and communication, we create personal care plans to improve the independence, dignity and quality of life of every single one of our patients and residents. 🔹 We all work under one roof. Our staff, specialist equipment and services are all based right here in Putney, meaning more immediate action for patients, with minimal disruption. 🔹 We don’t do things by halves. Not only do we have a team of award-winning specialists covering everything from physio to music therapy, we are one of the biggest care providers for people with advanced Huntington’s disease. This means we have the ability to raise funds to provide life-changing technologies, research and resources. 🔹 We look to tomorrow. The research of clinical advances provides factual information for families, professionals and policy-makers. It also offers specialist training for medical professionals to improve the future for people with neuro-disability. 🔹 We are a community within a community. As well as opportunities to socialise, we offer additional services for patients, residents and their families that include Carers’ Corner, a cafe, library, general store, dentist, GP, hairdresser, pharmacy and a post office. More importantly, we are committed to empowering our patients and residents with the necessary tools in order for them to be happy and live fulfilled lives.
